UNEXPECT Going 'Independent' With Next Album

Montreal's rambunctious and unique classical/black metal ensemble UNEXPECT has completed work on its sophomore album for a tentative early 2011 release via the band's own label.

Commented the group: "After some deep and profound thinking, we finally decided to take back the reins of our destiny and go independent for the release of the next album! We gave this option a lot of attention/thinking time and the conclusion was that we think it's all positive and for the best! And the fact of removing intermediaries will let us be even closer to our public!

"The [new UNEXPECT] album has been completed for a while and we're currently working on some re-adjustments so that we can release it as soon as we have the ideal conditions."

In other news, UNEXPECT has announced the departure of keyboardist Exod. The band says, "The lifestyle and sacrifices that go with touring is not to everyone's taste and it's been the main reason behind his choice. We were already talking about all of this while touring North America in 2008 so it's been a well-thought decision that we all knew of for a long time. That said, it doesn't mean that there won't be more future collaborations with him as we're still very good friends and are, as always, totally musically compatible...as you'll be able to hear on the new album."

UNEXPECT is not currently searching for a replacement for Exod but is "open to diverse possibilities." As for the band's upcoming Canadian tour, which is scheduled to kick off next week, the group states, "Exod, our favorite cyborg, prepared an electronic alter ego (read: a sequence) which reproduce exactly the same sonorities as when he was physically with us. It feels like playing with an invisible Exod."
